PSSR

What is PSSR Training?

PSSR (Pre-Startup Safety Review) training focuses on the systematic process of reviewing safety, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance before starting up a new or modified process in an industrial facility. PSSR ensures that all safety systems, equipment, and procedures are in place and functional to prevent accidents, equipment failures, and regulatory violations.
PSSR is a critical component of Process Safety Management (PSM) and is widely used in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, power plants, and manufacturing.

Objectives of a PSSR Training Course

A PSSR training course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to:

1. Understand PSSR Methodology – Learn the structured approach for conducting pre-startup safety reviews.
2. Identify Safety Gaps – Ensure all hazard controls, operating procedures, and emergency systems are in place before startup.
3. Verify Regulatory & PSM Compliance – Ensure alignment with OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), API RP 750, IEC 61511, and other safety standards.
4. Perform Equipment & System Checks – Confirm that all process equipment, instrumentation, and alarms are properly installed and tested.
5. Enhance Operational Readiness – Evaluate operator training, maintenance procedures, and emergency preparedness before startup.
6. Conduct Real-World PSSR Exercises – Use checklists, case studies, and audits to practice PSSR implementation in industrial settings.

Who Should Attend a PSSR Training?

This training is valuable for professionals involved in process safety, plant operations, and startup activities, including:

• HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) Managers & Officers – Ensuring startup safety and regulatory compliance.
• Process Engineers & Chemical Engineers – Verifying process safety before initiating operations.
• Operations & Maintenance Managers – Conducting pre-startup inspections and ensuring equipment reliability.
• Project Engineers & Facility Managers – Ensuring all modifications, upgrades, or new installations meet safety standards.
• Commissioning & Startup Teams – Preparing plants for safe and efficient startup.
• Regulatory & Compliance Officers – Ensuring facilities comply with OSHA, API, and other safety regulations.

Why is PSSR Training Important?

• PSSR is a last line of defense before starting a process, helping organizations:
• Prevent major incidents by identifying potential safety gaps.
• Ensure smooth startups by verifying system integrity and operator readiness.
• Demonstrate compliance with industry safety regulations.
